A truly sentient ai would likely manifest itself as a program that began reconfiguring its function and purpose in a way that is completely unpredictable. Human like intelligence is very specific and relevant to biological life. There is no reason that a non biological conscious entity would have the same desires and goals.

People got burned out from all the stupid hype, grade b movies, monotony of everyday life and ridiculous predictions. Meanwhile ai is steadily developing and allowing people to achieve things that were long thought to be impossible. Idiot claims like one the engineer really annoy me because they don't capture the real significance of the breakthroughs that have been made. The technological singularity is already here yet people cannot see it and just don't care. Technology is at the point where it is almost impossible to make any meaningful theoretical or engineering breakthrough without the help of artificial intelligence.

People will only realize this when the first agi achieves a singularity in all areas of cognition. I think this might happen in the early 2100s if quantum computers become more powerful. The real scope of the singularity will only start to be full realized when AI starts probing the limits of fundamental physics and begins creating models that far surpass human understanding.
