I always knew I had social anxiety, but today I was officially diagnosed. My parents refused the idea of therapy, saying that believing in such things means you don't have enough faith in God. My mom even played a video of a woman claiming that therapy is nonsense and that people should focus on God instead what a retard.
The good part is that I can finally call myself a shycel.
I can't wait until I get to university and no longer have to live with my parents.
Negative attitudes toward therapy prevent people from getting professional help. There are many documented cases where individuals delayed or avoided treatment for conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, postpartum depression, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder because they were told to rely only on prayer or faith and that made their conditions worse.
