I’ve been really into grappling sports since I was a kid and am at a high level in my country, but I have a terrible side profile due to my recessed chin and jaw, with a short ramus of about 4.5 cm. Basically, I feel cursed with my lower face. I’m really looking forward to surgery, such as chin wing surgery, fixing the gonial angle with implants, ramus lengthening with either implants or mandibular ramus osteotomy, and genioplasty or a chin implant.

I understand that these surgeries put strain on the bones of the face, but I still want to know if there is a chance of returning to a sport like grappling after recovery because I love the sport, but I can’t bear having a cursed lower face. If there are any other surgeries that could alter the lower face while allowing me to return to sport and achieve a desirable lower face, I would appreciate it very much

The genioplasty can endure chokes to the chin and grappling in general once fully healed over an year or two. However, with implants (gonial, chin etc), there always be a risk of their misplacement by few mms (even AFTER the recovery is all done)

So I don't think, you could return to the sport unless you tell your sparring partners to avoid chokes, or any force to your lower jaw OR/and you make a custom headgear for yourself protecting all those parts.

i assume something like kickboxing is out of the picture as well no?

So for actual kickboxing fights, it is more dangerous towards the implants or surgeries than grappling HOWEVER during sparring, if you make certain arrangements then it could be safer.

So the risk would go like this

Kickboxing sparring with arrangements > Grappling sparring w arrangements > Actual Grappling > Actual Kickboxing.

by arrangements do you mean thick headgear + verbally telling your sparring partner to go easy on the face? is there anything else i should do? i gotta keep training bro i’m 5’10 and i keep a low BF so im a victim without combat sports

Thick customized gear for the part of face where the surgery was done an year or two ago AND verbally taking a promise that there shall either be no hits towards that area or minimum and weak.

Keeping a low bf% could be kept w muscles too, building some muscles would give you more confidence too, I understand that fighting skills will always beat muscles if certain conditions arw not extreme but again if you're in this forum, you should know that muscle building is the softmaxxing with the highest ROI.
