When these civilisations aren't under any pressure to survive or advance, they become idle and focus on superficial pursuits (art. fashion, looks, etc)yeah it should, every successful civilization(ancient greeks/romans, even the renaissance) prioritised aesthetics, from looks upto fashion and style
and they were proud of it
It just shows stagnant development
Inb4 "looks are evolutionarily tied".. selection is tied to success foremost, which used to correlate with looks. The hunters who'd bring food + resources to the tribe were the ones who'd procreate, and physical traits were caused from + causing that success. You're just stuck with pattern recognition that shouldn't exist (to the extent it currently does), where all the safety + physiological needs have been met. Today, resources come from power that correlates highest with money, which correlates much higher with intelligence than physical traits
If there wasn't any change in what our non-human ancestors preferred, humans wouldn't have come about and if there wasn't any truth to the change, we wouldn't have been so dominant
