Also growing out a beard and giving it different lengths (aka beard fades) can also mask a lot of flaws such as:

- moustache hides flat/recessed maxilla to a certain extent
- it can hide a recessed mandible also to a certain extent
- it gives angularity to the face
- it makes your face look more youthful and masculine
-it makes your face look leaner
- gives the illusion of a better ramus.
- could make the proportions in your face more balanced
-you could fraud a wider and more projected chin
- can make your cheekbones look better

If you have any sort of abnormal malocclusion, protrusion or recession you should never be clean shaven unless you want to make yourself look worse.
