Microsoft claimed that they expect it to be out in 2024. This is one of the games that I'm expecting the most and I will readily buy it. It's gonna be an amazing experience.

They took so long because GTA 5 was number one game since 2014 and online was paying them a ton of money. Now RDR2 is paying them a lot of money too.

I haven't ever played GTA outside of my friend's PSP so I have very limited experience with the franchise, but I've played my fair share of games, and can assess the situation and confirm that GTA VI will be the Cuckstar's equivalent of Naughty Dog's Last of Us 2. I just know it.
