guilt is probably one of the heaviest feelings because it doesnt really need anyone else to punish you. sometimes you can do something wrong and even after everyone else has moved on, your own mind keeps bringing it back. you replay what happened, think about what you could have done differently and keep asking yourself why you did it in the first place. thats what makes guilt different from just knowing you made a mistake. you actually feel responsible for it. but guilt isnt always a bad thing. if you hurt someone or did something you know was wrong, feeling guilty can be a sign that you actually understand what you did. the important part is what you do with that feeling. you can use it to apologize, fix what you can and make sure you dont repeat the same mistake. the problem starts when guilt stops being about something you did and becomes something you believe you are. “i did something bad” is completely different from “im a bad person.” one is something you can learn from, the other can make you feel like nothing can ever change. sometimes people punish themselves long after they have already learned the lesson. they keep thinking they deserve to feel terrible forever because forgiving themselves feels like saying what they did was okay. it isnt. you can admit that something was wrong and still allow yourself to move forward. nobody gets through life without making mistakes. some mistakes are small and some can have serious consequences, but staying trapped in them forever doesnt undo them. if you genuinely regret something, the best thing you can do is take responsibility, learn from it and act differently next time. guilt should be a signal, not a prison. you dont have to forget what happened to move on from it. sometimes moving forward simply means accepting that you cant change the past, but you can still decide what kind of person you become after it. @Stalker @lowdimotrucel @Regret @greylurker @fallen442
