I never had temple recession. I ended up with diffuse thinning, which is like female pattern baldness and worse.

Yes, it's know minox is a regrowth agent. However, those follicles are still sensitive to DHT. Again... this all goes back to the ROOT problem.

Eventually the rate of hair miniaturizing due to DHT sensitivity will outpace any regrowth from minox.

Lol you realize minoxidil is absorbed right? It doesn’t just affect the surface area of where it’s applied to. It reduces collagen production in your cels, darkens your under eye area through dilating blood vessels, and can even make your face more bloated.

I have a younger brother who’s a year younger than me and a year ago he stupidly decided to get on minoxidil as a preventative hair loss measure (neither of us have started balding yet) and it’s clearly worsened his collagen and his undereye hollows are much darker than mine now despite being the same before. He looks a couple years older than me now. Bright side is it did technically work by regrowing hair along his temples and and making his hairline 16 years old again (he’s 22 now) but his temples weren’t even receding, they were just matured and not rounded like when you’re younger so it was unnecessary and not worth the trade off.

Thanks - it states role mediated through some kind of LH secretion and affects collogen lungs - so i assume that's a high dose via blood stream. I doubt results can be replicated through topical cream affecting collogen on face as opposed to lungs. Too many variables around amount and location etc.
I mean it could... But LH secretion and minox application are so varied here as opposed to study. And i need my hair sooo....

Found a reddit post with a lot of good info:

"A month late but there are more than 30 studies on Minoxidil's effects on collagen production and fibroblast proliferation. (The latter of which is the nastiest)

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8383644

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8112995

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8311472

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2826267

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2850865

If you want more in depth looks at those studies rather than just the Abstracts, then just message me and I can give you the PDF's.

It inhibits Lysyl Hydryoxylase, an important enzyme in collagen production. And, if stops fibroblasts from proliferating, AKA dividing. This means you have a smaller fibroblast cell count. Most people putting minoxidil on twice a day every day are overdosing on the drug, especially if they are doing it for extended periods like 6-12 months. The sides tend to last for a few months to a few years after Minoxidil is removed from your system, because minoxidil is a free-radical and edits cells at a transcriptional level (basically giving you misfolded proteins, which takes a long time for your body to clean out)

Lack of collagen means a paler skin tone, perhaps a greyish skin tone, dark circles around the eyes because your bones are showing through, forehead wrinkles, frizzier/darker hair, bushier looking eyebrows, and thinner eyelashes. While on minoxidil you have little to no collagen in the skin at all, but your elastin in the skin is fine so you won't literally look 30 years older.

How to fix this: Don't put anything on your face, don't dermaroll. That will cause bad fibroblasts to divide and make the problem worse. Eat a healthy diet, and look into ways to promote Autophagy (when your body kills off bad cells and heals existing ones) and the AMPK pathway in general. Fasting for 24-48 hours regularly, doing cardio often, intense exercise, and a healthy diet. Supplement Berberine and PQQ energy during a fast. And give it time, several months up to a year maybe. Research any current medications/supplements you are taking and see if they have an effects on AMPK or MToR pathways (I was taking melatonin 10mg for several months, didn't realize it prevents Autophagy during sleep.) Niacin may help too. Once your skin looks decent again naturally you can start using retin-a/vitamin c/dermaroll/ whatever you do."

Have you seen any hair growth at the temples?

This is a complicated issue and I doubt anyone here is knowledgeable enough to have a definite answer one way or another. But just to give a different perspective than some of the others here.

-The majority of studies showing negative sides were done in-vitro. As in not in humans. If every in-vitro study was accurate we would have cured diabetes, cancer, and a million other things.

yes. lots and lots of white hair and a few normal hair growing there. I think most of the white hair will turn normal in a few months

Amazing post.

So, for clarity: continue applying minox but take precautions that you listed? Or cease minox altogether? Again, im nearly 30 so hair wise could do with it. That said I already fast 40 hours per week for autophogy purposes and exercise regularly - both strength and aerobic. Considering quitting alcohol for good.

I do however take melatonin and also amytripolene as a pain killer for something. But I also do vitamin c serum on face, around orbitals, and considering retinol as well. Additionally, I supplement with nac and l-theanine.

High iq post though. Thx for information!

There does seem to be some issues. I'm leaning towards continuing to apply it but taking precautions but will have to do some research.

If i apply retinol to skin would that counteract minox effects?

Don't think so. My brother has been on tretinoin at the same time, which is the most effective skincare treatment out there, yet it wasn't enough to counteract the damage.

any shedding? and do u know what the consensus is on whether you have to take minoxidil for the rest of your life? I see many say that you have to, but I've heard of many people getting off minox and being fine.

idk about shedding. I think for the eyebrows I might stop after 2 years and see what happens. Im not stopping on the temples because hairloss there is progressive. also something I noticed is a lot of growth on my left temple but very little on my right temple. no idea why tf this is happening. I guess I will be getting an asymetrical hairline if right side doesnt catch up
