I want to hop on test to ascend but I am worried that I’ll get gyno or lose hair and end up worse than I started. I’ve looked into dht blockers and aromatase inhibitors but I read they have bad side effects and I’m not sure if I even need them.

Depends, how old are you? If you are doing this during puberty using a high dose of test without precautions can close your growth plates. Using dht blockers will fuck up your development leading to you being less masculine, including a smaller dick.
But yes, even if your are not in puberty using too much test can give you gyno and hairloss, this depends on how much you aromatize and if you are prone to hairloss.

If you're sure your growth plates are closed you could blast supraphysiological doses of test, but personally i wouldnt risk it. Make sure to avoid any type of dht blocker for now as it is essential and you will be cooking your shit by using it.
If you're worried about losing hair use a topical anti-androgen such as RU58841.
