*How to get and maintain habits*
Basics
1.When you do something you don't want to a certain level of willpower is exerted
2. When you do that thing for long amounts of time it becomes a habit and no longer cost willpower
You yourself have plenty of habits (or actions that cost no willpower) but just haven't realized it yet
(Brushing your teeth, getting out of bed, taking a shower)
How to build habits
The goal is to try to transition into stage 2 (that I mentioned in basics) as smoothly as possible
The way you do this is to reduce the willpower cost for the action as much as possible until it becomes negligible
Lets go over a quick example:
Lets say you want to make mediation a habit
What you would do is mediate for 10 seconds on day 1
and SLOWLY increase the time as the days go by
If you instead tried to mediate for 10 minutes you might be able to do it for 1 day
but by day 2 the willpower cost is too high and you won't be able to maintain consistency
Time Benchmarks
1. If you stay consistent for 2 months it should become a habit
2. During that 2 months if you go 3 days without doing the action then it is unlikely you will continue it

Advanced Strategies
Habitica is a (free) app were you put in your list of habits and you come back everyday and get
coins and xp for completing your habits. The idea here is that the coins and xp serve as a dopamine reward which will motivate you
Theres another app called forest which is more for studying (but its worth mentioning)
basically when you study a tree grows slowly in the background
and if you end your study session prematurely the tree dies
Every time you complete a study session another tree gets put in your forest

A few quick notes
You shouldn't try to build multiple habits at once just solely focus on one
Again to reiterate the goal is to make the action as easy as possible that way you can keep doing it consistency
and slowly ramp up the difficulty
If your habit is too difficult then you won't be able to maintain it so make it simple
