Hair gel vs pomade?

Which one is better. I recently got Crew men's gel and it works great for me. Is there any benefit to using pomade as opposed to gel?

Go with medium shine, high hold pomade.

water based pomade is supposed to be less crusty in your hair
but i found both water based pomades and gels act similarly in your hair nowadays you better try oil based pomade if you want your hair to remain soft and pliable but beware those don't wash out of the hair easily
