But as long as you get a decent haircut that suits you, you're golden.
Having some mild recession in the temples is negligible most of the time.
Having suboptimal hair quality, too oily, too fine or naturally a bit on the thinner side etc. can be managed and it's not that big of a deal.

Significant thinning due to diffuse male pattern baldness, balding in the crown, or significant recession where it starts making your forehead look bigger and unbalanced, that's when it starts being detrimental to your looks.

Completely shaved head suits very very few men. Overwhelming majority of men look from worse to WAY worse when they shave their head. You need to have everything else working in favor of you to pull it off - great well developed face, masculine features, great skull shape, darker/tanner complexion etc. And even then, the man probably still looks a bit better with hair.

Of course, having great hair doesn't automatically mean you're attractive. There are plenty of men with top tier hair that look busted.

You need to have certain combinations of features to pull off the bald look. With hair, it's much more forgiving, as you may adjust them to cover a poor skull shape, visually change proportions and so on. Having nw0/1 and be able to grow a beard is better as you can just shave scalp/facial hair off if you don't like it (people fighting a beard shadow don't count), you have a choice. Norwood victims have a choice of having a cleaner look or rocking with a bird nest/horseshoe on their heads unless they have enough hair in donor zone or are responsive to meds.
