On black people's hair, especially at low levels, it just looks terrible.

The only option is growing it out. But low haircuts are totally off the cards.

either that or there is a running bias since those are the only ones we can confidently tell apart from natural hair.

I think you can focus on density near your hairline and cover the rest of the scalp with a hairpiece.
Using both should be able to give you full head of hair.
