Has anyone here really recovered mentally from being an "abused dog"?

You know the type- grew up ugly/nd, delayed milestones, slow life history, low self esteem, attachment issues, general poor mental health and motivation.

I'm fortunate enough to be in a salvageable position (decent looks & genetics, somewhat privileged, smart enough to go places in life) and I've whined excessively about my life here

Have any of you been able to make the mental transition that comes with ascending and escaping that environment? And have any of you managed to save yourselves from the path of "wasted potential" burnout?

Just looking for any personal experiences and advice tbh, hope I'm not asking the blind for directions

I didn’t tbh

Main thing is to prioritise doing as many things as possible, only think AFTER you do something and for 5 seconds tops. Also reject any form of self hatred

Somewhat yeah but the abused dog mindset will always creep in occasionally

Just can’t let it get ahold of you again

Yeah, I was in the same position, youngest in class, later puberty, probally some minor TISM.

I've tried exposure therapy and stuff in my teens, it was ok, but the ball really started rolling when I started using drugs. Phenibut for high-stakes social events = positive interactions + new friends = positive reinforcement when off them.

On my first date, my palms were so sweaty, and I had so many inhibitions. I've been on dozens of dates now, the next ones I used phenibut and lost my virginity. Now I don't even use phenbut for 2nd dates.

Of course, your mindset should be is a tool for exposure therapy, not a crutch to be only social on phenibut or feel good. Ideally, you should stop using it once you establish a friend group and perhaps a relationship.

I use 300mg-500mg, which is a small dose once or twice a month, only reserved for high-stakes situations like first dates, interviews, or meeting new people. Its not for everyone, if you dont have self control dont take it. Try pregabalin or baclofen instead.

Within reason and for a purpose, yes, most people dont have self-control.

Exposure therapy is the only thing that will help, but sometimes in severe cases, you need some drugs to even help you start getting positive reinforcement.

How does it compare to alcohol? I've heard a lot of buzz about pregab/phenibut/baclofen here, I understand that they are purported as healthier and less of a looksmin, but do they reduce inhibition much more? Because alcohol has helped me slay but not really solved the problem, although if I could get the inhibminning without it making me retarded it could be useful

Good advice, but is it easy to come off? I have a somewhat addictive personality, is it phenibut that has bad withdrawal and tolerance buildup or was that one of the other gaba agonists

I have a lot of respect for goggins even if he’s deeply unhealthy
But he came from a very acutely traumatic environment that built a lot of mental toughness, mine was the kind of childhood that makes you weak more than anything else

As soon as you go down the rabbit hole of a BP and such as well as the experiences of being treated like shit no matter if you become successful or not it will always just stick with you as it happened all in your formative years and shaped you into who you are

You know the walls that hold you back from being who you actually are inside completely disappear. That happens on alcohol too, but alcohol is dogshit, you can't drive, you're super sloppy, its poisionous, you can't think clearly, and the day after you want to kill yourself. Phenibut actually raises dopamine as well, so you are more witty and charismatic along with the lower inhibitions.

With phenibut at a reasonable dosage, none of the negatives of alcohol apply. It also lasts over 8 hours.

It truly, for me, is probably the best drug ever created. But there is a catch for sure if you have an addictive personality, I would not try it, because it works too well.

It has incredibly horrible withdrawal for people who are addicts. I've heard stories of people using 10g a day and then their shipment gets delayed, and they die. This is after months of daily heavy use, though. It builds tolerance after the first dose.

If you can keep it to once a week under a gram its fine. But I would recommend personally not using it more than 3 times a month. and keeping it under a gram.

Since you said you have an addictive personality, I would try baclofen or pregabalin occasionally instead. Again its a tool for exposure therapy, not a crutch to be social or feel good.

It's for people like me who started isolating and declining invites due to anxiety.

I feel like my issue isn’t social anxiety but rather being afraid to be “myself” and being inhibited from stuff like approaching girls, escalating etc
You’ve sold me on it pretty well but yeah i’ll do more research

I no longer have social anxiety, but yeah, it definitely would work for your use case. That's what it does, it helps you be who you are inside without walls.
