I find it hard to make an actual friendship online, it is significantly harder to empathize with faceless entities, it's just letters on a screen. I've made one online friend, but my friends and I met up with him, and we knew of his IRL stuff from me getting his IP, full name, and snooping. It solidifies someone as a person to me, makes it much easier to empathize, and then seeing them IRL is the final thing to cement it all.
