Have you ever noticed that every East Asian person refers to themselves as "Asian" but Koreans, Japanese people never do that?

Every Vietnamese person I have met, never upfront told me they were from vietnam they just said they were asian. But every Japanese person I ever met always started with "I'm japanese."... Very interesting stuff.

If I were a jap, korean, any north east asian of some kind or chinese I would not want to be associated with the rest of that continent and area at all and would rather go by nationality

If you’re from a nation like Japan. You’d be proud to say it all the fucking time?

because japanese/chinese or korean cultures are more developed, as well as respected in civilized countries compared to “vietnam” or “laos”

They don't like to be associated with China @PeenoResurrected @ngannou

The Japanese don't like being grouped with the Chinese, or being called "east Asian" or "oriental" or anything similar. It is interesting that they have such a distinct culture but usually they are assumed to be similar and in the same broad cultural group as the Chinese when really they are totally different. Similar with the Koreans. An interesting example, in hawaii the Chinese and Pacific islanders often mix and have kids together, but the Japanese very rarely do this. Definitely a more isolationist culture with more focus on race and identify, I don't think the Vietnamese or laotians really care about it much
