Haven’t slept this early in a long time

I have to go early on a train to another town to work a kitchen job  afterwards i'll come back home and just see what life brings, no real plans so far

what about ya?
You work in a kitchen?

U like it?

Out of topic but does the search bar not work anymore?
Yes, that’s correct. Due to server migrations, the search function hasn’t been doing its job. It’s affecting everyone, staff members included.

I hate it, if it wasn't required for my education i would never go.

I wouldn't recommend this to my biggest enemy, unless you somehow got into a 5 star upper class restaurant, then it can be fun.

Wow, you’re lucky that you get to work. I don’t have a job at all. At least you’re using your time well. How do you like your job so far and how long do you have to commute?

Ignore my last post then. Do you get paid for it?

Well it's not really a job, it's practise that is required for my education, but i do go to a real restaurant serving real people.

It's around 6-8 hours, depending on how the manager is feeling haha, and i dont get paid a cent for my labour :hnghn:

Ahhh.. that’s required here too for students. We call it an internship. Why get one that’s so far away? I also have to do an internship. It’s unpaid labor, but it’s required by our schools, so we “happily” take the position.

Glad for you. I have to go to university now, and afterwards I'll be working for four more hours on zero hours of sleep. I'm just waiting for a day when my body finally gives in, insomnia is horrible

Insomnia is definitely horrible, sorry you have to deal with that. It’s the worst when you have classes the next morning. Some nights I sleep less than 5 hours and others I’m not even sure if I slept but I have to go anyway.

I don't get to choose, it's a part of my school program. I have normal lessons for the first 4 day of a week, then on fridays i have the internships.

It's chosen by my school and i have no say when, where or how i go there. It's stupid that it's unpaid to be honest, there's no reason to make a child slave away in one of the worst work ethics (kitchen and washing dishes) for hours for free. Especially with the risks that it has (back pain, burnt skin, cutting yourself with knifes, machinery, slippery floor and stairs etc.)

Yeah; I feel like it seems actually mainstream in the United States (if you’re from there). I’m from The Netherlands, and it doesn’t feel mainstream at all, more like a niche community. XD
Although I think Germany is pretty high up in this site's traffic, it also doesn’t feel particularly mainstream here, tbh.
Back in 2023 a few idiots did the mewing meme at some female friends of mine, but that's about it. I've never seen anything else in real life, online it's huge, though, and some of my turbo-bluepilled friends at least heard of it.
No idea about the teenagers, though.

That sounds like the education system here as well. However, it depends on the field you’re in. Since you work in the kitchen, I’m assuming you’re studying to become a chef or something like that. You wouldn’t be required to work at a kitchen if you’re studying nursing for example. I’m in university so I have to find my own place to do an internship, I would have preferred if they found one for me because if I don’t find one myself, I won’t be able to progress in my studies and then I’ll have to wait until next year. But yeah, I can understand why you’re bummed out about it, I don’t think it’s fair on you at all.

Interesting. Germany is larger so I expect it to be more well-known but where I’m from it’s not the case. I’ve never heard anyone use blackpill terms. Even the word “incel” is unheard of by probably 99% of people.

Thank you. Yeah, there is nothing more torturing than knowing you still have the whole day ahead of you while being just exhausted from the night.
I used to have sleep apnea, got tested in labour, that was horrific.
It wreaked havoc on my brain function. I never fully recovered, and apparently there's still something going on. My circadian rhythm just doesn't work anymore, and I barely get any deep sleep. Still wake up multiple times a night.

I agree, I don't think it is that big outside of social media and the US yet. But maybe it just has to do with us being in different age groups.

I used to joke about that stuff with girls I dated back in 2021, before I had a gf, talking about things like positive canthal tilt and analszing their faces. All that noob stuff basically. Funny how that actually worked back then. It would be really awkward if they knew about all this now.

Same here, it just depends on your level of education. In high school, there are three, and each has a different duration. You have MAVO (4 years -> then MBO (junior college, 2-4 years depending on your major, these are for labor jobs like becoming a baker or lower level jobs like becoming a doctor’s assistant), HAVO (5 years -> then HBO (college, 4 years regardless of your major, these are for jobs like becoming a nurse) and VWO (6 years -> then WO (university, usually 3 years for your bachelor’s degree, these are for jobs like becoming a doctor). MAVO graduates are usually 16 years old when they become MBO freshmen, HAVO graduates are usually 17 years old when they become HBO freshmen and VWO graduates are usually 18 years old when they become WO freshmen. MBO is practical, HBO is practical/theoretical and WO is theoretical but usually each type of college/university has a certain mixture of both.

I really like to prepare fancy foods, you know like upper class foods that just look really good on the plate.

getting hired in a restaurant like this would be a dream come true, but that'd require years of labor in lower class restaurants

I know what it’s like, and I can relate to it. I remember last year, I had to be somewhere the entire day and I had to travel for at least 2+ hours to get there, and another 2+ hours to get back. And I’d have to arrive at 9 AM, so I’d get out of the house at 6 AM, get out of bed at 5:30 AM, and I’d have to stay there until 5:45 PM, then travel 2+ hours again. I was exhausted by the time I came back since I had pulled an all-nighter. I’ve been chronically sleep-deprived, it has affected the cognitive ability of the brain. That means the ability to speak, think and memorize. It’s been proven that a lack of sleep literally shrinks your brain. People often accuse me of being a liar simply because I genuinely forgot that I did or said something. It sucks.

That’s true, our age groups are relevant here but even so, when I’m outside, I never hear teenagers using blackpill terms either.

Yes, think of it like art but edible.

The chef making those foods isn't just trying to make it tasty, otherwise they'd just give you KFC. They're also trying to make it aesthetically pleasing and professionally presented.

Same, it basically leads to symptoms similar to ADHD. Every doctor I've seen claimed it was reversible, but based on my own research, I seriously doubt that.
At work, they think I'm utterly retarded because I have these spells where my concentration drops and I make some random mistake.
I suppose, it's similar for you?
