This probably depends on the country but here in Iceland there's frankly not that many guys that have girlfriends in their teens and early 20s. I know this is antidotical but it seems to me like most stay single, maybe (very infrequently) get laid, and then 'date' some single mom once they're in their late 20s or early 30s.
The 'relationship experience' that's often romanticized in fiction doesn't seem that common in the real world. In the modern west (and east-asia) many or even most young men don't have girlfriends as we think of them and when they finally do get them it's just some leftover that uses them as betabucks.
EDIT: I will add that this seems like an extremely cruel joke. Popular culture makes it seem as if having a relationship is the greatest thing ever and that everybody does it, yet most males can't have it or if they can it's just shit betabucks with a woman/girl that doesn't want them.
