they don't really smell bad and i don't remember any issues with diseases or hygiene/health in general with dogs and cats in my extended family

i'll never have one, but for a simple different reason - too selfish to dedicate my time to them. caring about animals and playing with them is as heartwarming and cute as it gets, but it's still a self-imposed waste of time. animal-related tiktok and youtube channels will do it for me.

Cats themselves are very self sufficient so you don’t really have to do much with them besides feed them and change their litter box
