HBO has cast a 6'5 former rugby player to play a character who's described as giant/toweringly and comically tall in the source material

HBO is working on an adaptation of Dunk and Egg, a series of books set in the world of Game of Thrones about a knight called Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, a Targaryen prince named Aegon. Ser Duncan is described as a huge guy in the books, "nearly seven feet", towering over every person he meets, and kind of naive, innocent, oafish and awkward but also endearing and attractive to women in his own shy way. The casting agency had called for a guy at least 6'4.

The actor who got cast for the role is an Irish former rugby player called Peter Claffey. Looks the part imo, slightly acromegalic to have that "clumsy oaf" look (a big part of his backstory is that he comes from a dirt poor peasant background and feels very out of place with lords, "proper knights" etc.), but gl enough to be a convincing sympathetic protagonist that women could find attractive. According to his rugby page he is is 196 cm/6'5.

Goes to show that in the real world 6'5 is huge, borderline comically so, and the fact that they had to pick a former rugby player also shows how rare people in that height range really are. Puts into perspective the height discussions people here have, with some rotters talking about how 6'6-6'9 is ideal, 6'2 gets mogged often and crap like that. It also highlights that awkward oafish look these guys tend to have, i.e. how extremely rare high-psl guys with that height really are (I think this guy has very high SMV irl but that's a different topic). Realistically speaking I think 6'5 is the worst you should expect to run into/get mogged by on a somewhat regular basis, "6'6+ moggers" might as well not exist for you in your everyday life.

yeah I'm guessing the show's cast is gonna be mainly British, who aren't the tallest people, making a 6'5 guy look like the "giant" the character he's playing is supposed to be. Still, when the average person sees a legit 6'5+ guy irl they think he looks giant, even in the Netherlands it's taller than 97-99% of men. I don't think it's an opinion unique to me, a lot of people here consider 6'6 the beginning of too tall and only some rotters think "the taller the better", "7'0 is ideal" and stuff like that. But yeah outside of a small minority of genetically gifted guys, who you mainly see in sports, super tall guys tend to have weird proportions, very bad frames and ogre faces. It's dysgenic in its own way imo, like "reverse manletism", men aren't meant to be that tall.
But for me mainly it looks awkward and unaesthetic in real life, you want to stand out and be a mogger but past a point it looks comical. And when you're a foot taller than the average woman in the tallest country in the world it probably causes practical problems too. At 6'4-6'5 you're already huge and taller than 99% of men almost everywhere, and tower over virtually every woman, no benefits in being past that unless you wanna go into the NBA or something. There's a reason models and Hollywood actors for the most part are never past 6'4. There's also those studies that show there is such a thing as "too tall" for women and they have a preferred height difference, I doubt the average woman wants this:
