let me explain. many of the emotions we experience today no longer feel as pure as they once might have, because so much of the mystery surrounding life has disappeared.
look up at the night sky. even through the light pollution, you might still see a few stars. ask the person lying next to you why they shine, and they can give you an answer, they are stars, planets, suns etc.
for most of history, we didnt have those answers, people back then would look at the same sky we do now and imagine almost anything, they could see god in it, love in it, fate in it
and they could go home believing that with nobody „correcting“ them
because of this, the world became whatever you perceived it to be
it reflected your fears, your hopes, and your beliefs
mystery made life feel like it was yours
modern life gives us knowledge, but knowledge also numbs that mystery
there is less space for the world to become whatever we need it to be.
there are only 2 emotions that knowledge cannot fully explain away, love and sadness
they dont need no light pollution or better architecture, they happen in the most primal part of us
heartbreak combines both. you still love someone, while experiencing the pain of losing them
that is why heartbreak is the most intense emotion a modern person can experience
thats my theory, what do you think?
