You'll get used to it. You can also play as the US if you want to play at your own pace. US is protected by the pacific and atlantic with huge industries. Mid Gane the US becomes very powerful. You can make a lot more mistakes playing as US but germany is better for a quick victory.

You can play as anything and still learn nigga. It's just that a few countries suit different playing styles. Germany is better for quick victory, US better for survival, USSR for easy defence, UK for naval warfare and Japan if you think you are some pro.

Playing as Japan is pretty hard tho. Limited resources and you'll face China early and clash with the superpowr US mid game which will be a major pain in the ass until the end. You also need to dominate the pacific and defend your islands from US air raids which is resource intensive. I wouldn't recommend Japan for a newbie.
