When people say that in the past people were shorter because nutrition was bad, they are taking about the average of the masses, not the elite. The elite was always well fed, and obviously all presidents came from wealthy families. So that was not a factor.

You’re saying that although the rich had plenty of food, the quality of their diet was bad.

I don’t know where you got this idea. Their diet was healthier than ours. We are the ones who have diets with an over abundance of fat and industrialized artificial properties that are bad for us.

Humans really just need sources of carbohydrates, protein, fats and vitamins. If you eat bread, meat and drink orange juice you already have all of those needs met. Literally, it’s not that hard.

The only way someone’s diet can be plentiful and yet lacking, would be in very particular circumstances. Like the sailors for example, who used to get scurvy since they only ate fish, biscuits and no fruits. They didn’t get their vitamins.

But people in mainland had varied diets, especially the rich. Their puberty growth was not limited by a lack of nutrition.

Is it really that hard to believe that a 5’4 man could have gotten elected? People were very religious and square at the time. Also no one ever saw the president in videos or anything like that. People just read about the candidates on newspapers. Being a wealthy property owner with good connections and reputation mattered much more than being tall.
