Height shrink over time

Can people really shrink that much over time? My dad looks much taller in his old pictures about like 5’11 or 5’10 and it says 5’11 on his license that he took many years ago but as of right now he’s 42 and he looks 5’8 or 5’9 and I’m 5’10 and there is a
Noticeable height diffrence between us. Was he never really that tall and he just looked like it before? Or do people really shrink that much over time, ngl he does got bad posture though.

Well like most Mexican dads he drinks he used too drink a hell lot of beer and alcohol so makes sense
