Yes, the bottom two illustrations of the classic "Mouth breather / downwards grown" face.
... A.K.A "THE RECESSEDCEL"
This image has made the rounds for a good year and a bit, with very different responses. I'd like to help.
I'm wanting to create a solid advice thread for anyone who truly believes they share the features of the bottom illustration, this can be a helpful step in their journey to remedying their issues. I think this is if not one of the most common talked about phenoms on the site, "downwards growth" and or "jaw recession" . I'm asking simply for your opinion on what procedures whether craniofacial , orthoganthic, whatever you think would be the best step foward from the bottom illustration to, or get as reasonably close to the illustration above it.
In order to treat a case like this, at least to get the aesthetics you're wanting, surgery is pretty much a certainty. You will need to ditch most cover ups or and accept what you've got, no other way around it.
Personally, I'd think it would be a Trimax (mandibular maxillary advancement + genioplasty) paired with a counter clockwise rotation movement to treat the jaw very sufficiently. With an addition of a rhinoplasty (if the affects of the nose isn't corrected by the advancement of the maxilla) and as well as implants. (Jaw angle, zygos.. )
I know there is great trouble people go through to try and look at themselves in a new way on what they would change, I'd like to say that it's alright to want to be better. Some opinions may vary but that is just a matter of ethics and their own personal thoughts being spat out onto you. You may even find opinions like that in a real clinical setting, while you're paying for it! This forum is a good place to get quality information, totally free of charge.
However, while you may feel terrible about how things have turned out or the way they look currently, you need to take yourself seriously and try to know yourself the best you can so if you do eventually arrange a consultation with a surgeon or whoever it is, you must know exactly what you need which makes their job easier. You don't want to be talked into anything you don't want, have a unsatisfactory result, and be feeling worse off post-op than you were beforehand. The second you might think you've got it all planned, stick around and use the time you have wageslaving for the surgery to your advantage.
You may hear and see "Comparison: the theif of joy" a lot, and while it is true, use that too to your advantage. Comparing is a very useful tool in this racket, your perspective is everything. The more angles you can see, the more you can see where you fit along the line.
Hope this can get a good reach, and stop people from strictly using reddit or realself.
Please comment stuff, don't keep others in the dark, or at least tell me where I'm going wrong here. Cheers dnr
