Help me style my subhuman hair

Here is current hair (left is a good day, but majority of the days it looks like the one on the right). It gets puffy and weird.

I'm trying to grow it longer like these

What should I do other than waiting? What cut should I ask next time?
Are they good inspiration or do you have better ones to recommend?

use some shea butter it'll help with the dryness, works as leave in conditioner, don't use too much.

thanks as always!! do i apply it everytime i wash them (2x a week)?
should I cut it to remove volume or keep it till it grows a bit longer?

Really? My hair seems to have more volume than the end results I want. Am I wrong?
