HELP WITH HAIR!!

so for pretty much all my life i had a side part bowl cut type of hair but september 1 i decided to go to the barber and ask for a middle part and i ran into some problems.
when im home, after the shower i use a comb to divide the hair but there are always stubborn hair that spike and i need to use clay to fix them. my hair is 1b/c (the front of my hair has some light waves, hairs close to the scalp are straight) also my barber told to wait 1month for my hair to get that really middle part look

1. why my hair spikes
2. what products should i use based on my cut, hairtype, etc...
3. other tips for a new middle part guy

I had the same issue my hair was around 1A/1B and I never really knew what to do with it so I decided to grow it out and eventually get a perm since then people have told me that it looks alot better with more curl and it is now around 2C tbh I would strongly recommend getting a perm.
