Help with jaw surgery/surgeon & questions

So basically my main question I have is would going to a jaw surgeon that is closer to me okay? Most of the posts I see are about people traveling to meet with specific oral/maxillofacial surgeons but I have some in my area. Is it risky to go to one closer to me because they could fuck something up or not produce good results? And if its okay what should I look for to find a good surgeon? If you guys know any in California then lmk tho cus that'd be great. Im planning on getting marpe/mse and then a bimax to fix my bite and asymmetry. I have a underbite and bad jaw alignment so my smile from my side profile seems shallowish and my mandible is sort of tilted to the left if that makes sense. Anything helps.

Also should I go to a mse specialist or would any person who does marpe be okay, cant find anything online that shows the difference but apparently mse gives more skeletal gains. I just wanna widen my cheekbones mostly.
