Hey, the communists did the same thing in Romania - married people had access to better jobs, houses, opportunities, childless people over 25 had to pay a tax, abortions were banned, sex education was non-existent so many people had no idea about protection or that stuff like condoms and contraceptives are a thing, divorces were difficult to accomplish, no laws against sexual harassment or domestic violence, etc...
Women who gave birth to 10 children, became "heroes", received a medal and a car(this was a huge deal back then).

After the fall of communism and legalization of abortions, the birth rates dropped even more and from the early 90s until now they are below the death rates, Romania's population is shrinking fast.

For women it really wasn't, but for men it was much better, everyone got married, I know many older fat/short/ugly/weird guys that would be incels in this age. Now Romania is pretty much like any Western country with promiscuity, hypergamy, high divorce rates, etc. - women live now better and better, while for men it's harder and harder.
