Hitler came to power because of his speaking skills and the higher living standards he promised, but germans had no attachment to him personally because of his appearance.
Although he had just transformed Germany from a complete backwater into one of the strongest military and industrial nations in the world he was constantly mocked for his physical features even by top nazis:
-Goebbels thought Hitler’s mustache was a "postage stamp"
- Göring thought Hitler was the "shortest giant”
-Himmler thought Hitler didn’t represent aryanness
- Junge mocked Hitler’s frailty
As the war progressed many German soldiers quickly became demoralised and often joked about Hitler’s weak and un-nordic appearance. They hadn’t seen his theatric performances for years so only had the image of a LTN chud in their head that was screaming in the radio telling them to keep fighting for the survival of the aryan race.
Some started deserting, sabotaging their own missions and a group of officers even tried to kill Hitler.
Meanwhile other commanders in history who were arguably HTN had unquestionable loyalty from their Soldiers like Ceasar, Alexander or Charlemagne. A majority of their troops fought to the death unlike german troops (except SS)
