Under traditional custom, regular water can be added to holy water without erasing the blessing, provided the original holy water remains greater than fifty percent of the total volume. If so much regular water is added that the blessed water becomes the minority, the blessing is lost entirely. By adding a small amount of regular water whenever the container is only a quarter empty, the blessed water always stays in the majority, allowing the blessing to continuously carry over. This is how I have kept my Belle Delphine bathwater for the last seven years.
