how are people able to learn and quickly recollect shit?

the moment i read something it immediately leaves my head. i feel so fucking deflated after being in easy language classes and falling behind, being called on randomly to answer, and being unable to reproduce very basic shit. i don't know how people see chinese letters and are able to recognize them moments later??? it's not even some conceptual difficulty it's just fucking remembering basic stuff.

i'm legit being humbled by a class that almost anyone can pass BECAUSE I CAN'T REMEMBER SHIT!!

My short term memory has deteriorated considerably with age. So it is a subject I have given some thought to. Yet I have no large scale answer. Though not applicable to everyone, I do think some people develop poor memories as a defense mechanism, so that they can forget traumas.

do you think it's entirely IQ? i have had decent to good test scores but every working memory test online i take puts me below average and i fail those mental acuity tests job applications use to filter out senile people

I remember when I was working at McDonalds; I told this one kid that I was in nursing school. He said, "what did you learn?" I blanked out, and looked stupid as fuck not knowing anything. This was after years of studying too. I was like wtf; I know I learned something during that time. You gotta comprehend chit, that was one of my mistakes bad memory/low learning capability.
