its a coping mechanism, some people feel so unworthy of human connection that they cant bring themselves to watch things with actual humans in it, so instead they watch cartoons

another factor is anime characters are unrealistically (because it’s fiction of course) attractive and well behaved

much more than real humans

and a lot of these hentai/anime obsessed losers don’t have any human interaction so they don’t know the personality of a woman irl

but they know the personality of their favourite waifu

and thus can create scenarios interacting with them in their head to make it more realistic

I still think its a coping mechanism. I knew a guy from portugal who would always talk about how ugly he was and how he planned on comitting suicide, and he would also only watch anime not regular tv shows or tiktok and stuff.

I think the lower your self esteem the more avoidant you become of anything that reminds you of real life since thats where your trauma and insecurities are linked to. Its easier to escape into anime with fictional cartoon characters
