Its water modulating and osmorality effects probably explains why it makes people bloated or cause edema or its positive effects on hair growth (similar to anti-mineralcorticoids like Spironolactone?).
Other than that it blocks glucose oxidation, flushes the liver with triglycerides and therefore can cause high insulin spikes frequently which would put you at risk for diabetes
