how brutal is this (kid calls me ugly)

I’m 20 years old and often play basketball at the local court with a group of younger kids who are around 10 to 14 years old. They usually follow me around and talk to me a lot.


One day, an Arab kid (around 12 years old) asked me, "Are you (this ethnicity)" I said no. Then he guessed, "this ethnicity " I said no again. After that, his skinny friend chimed in and said, "He looks like (this ethnicity) I agreed and said, "Yeah."


Later, that same skinny kid whispered something to his arab friend. The friend immediately yelled out, "He called you ugly!"


The kid instantly panicked and backtracked, saying, "No, no, I never said that," or something similar.
