I’m about to see a sleep specialist to have a sleep study done. Im like 80% sure I have sleep apnea. I’m pretty sure my insurance will cover it, but the specialist has to refer me to a surgeon and deem it medically necessary. How can I subtly persuade the specialist that bimax would be ideal. My maxilla and jaw are recessed, would that be a good thing to mention? I really want to try to take advantage of my sleep apnea to ascend.

Skip the "specialist" and go straight to the surgeon.

Would a surgeon be able to get my insurance to cover it?
U just need the sleep apnea diagnosis nigger, it doesnt matter if they refer u to a max fac or not, any surgeon u go to can claim the sleep apnea cuz of ur jaws

1. Have a low enough self reported sleep score (you need to be practically unable to function, falling asleep multiple times during the day, while driving, etc to pass this test).
2. They will then give you a sleep clinic monitored sleep test. Somehow you need to induce sleep apnea to pass this test.
3. They will give you a CPAP machine if you pass, you need to prove that you can’t tolerate or stick to using it.
4. Bimax, but if you’re not in a country where you can choose your surgeon and influence the result you will most likely be very unhappy with your “functional” results

Can I choose my surgeon here in America?

You don't need a sleep apnea diagnosis to see a surgeon. An orthodontist was the one who gave me the referral.

Nobody knows bro. It depends on ur insurance. If ur in America, you can just see an orthodontist for the surgeon referral. The orthodontists have free consults usually. Go on r/jawsurgery and see if you can find an orthodontist in your state who does surgery cases.

U need it for insurance like he said so i was saying for him to just get a sleep apnea diagnosis and then go to any surgeon he wants but now that im thinking about it, i dont know if his insurance will cover it if the surgeon he goes to isn't referred by the sleep specialist..

Does the surgeon usually have to approved by the sleep specialist? I’ve heard some people say that you are referred to a surgeon but others have said that you can pick your own. I’m in the US btw

So I have to go to an ortho before a max fac surgeon?

Yes go to a male orthodontist. Tell them you are recessed and they will send a referral to a surgeon. You can probably pick which surgeon you want the referral to go to

not worth it. youd have to be dishonest for month to years to get them to entertain it. and no medical history of sleep apnea until youre a young adult and now desperately need treatment? (idk how old you are assuming ur young adult)

Yeah unlikely
Why tho? I’m like 80% sure I have sleep apnea and I’m going to get a sleep study done in like a week. If I get an official diagnosis why isn’t it possible to get bimax?

Just say that you’ve read up on sleep apnoea and that you think a bimax would be the best solution in your case.

Don’t think you’re going to implant the idea into the doctors brain so that he’ll independently come to your conclusion without your guidance.
That was just a film.
