The reasons I believe in God are twofold. One, nature could not be as cruel as it is without some purpose. And that purpose has to come from something created by higher intelligence. I know that's a lame ass argument, but if you look at modern quantum physics and other recent developments and science they all point towards the fact that there is some sort of general higher intelligence and human consciousness does not fade after the body complex stops functioning. Also, I agree with religions being a cope and a form of social control. I believe in a God and certain moral values, but don't really affiliate with any religion in particular. I'm probably closest to Christianity but I wouldn't call myself a Christian. If I didn't believe that there was some greater purpose to this life, I probably would have killed myself by now.
