Pretty much if it looks too narrow for you to the point that you want to fix it, then think about mse

you can measure your IMW (Intermolar width) by biting down on a piece of paper and measuring the distance between them.

but front of the palate is the only important part of appearance I have an IMW in the mid 40s but front of palate narrows alot so doesnt look wide.

So judge by appearance really but you probably won’t be able to get mse with a good IMW
