how come a girl looks better in candids than in pictures she takes herself?

this girl i follow on insta posted a couple of pics from her graduation with her hair tied up in a bun and she looks much better than in her selfies.

in her selfies she looks like some trashy EE escort but in candids she looks like ltr material. how is this possible?

you must have a blockhead or a extremely short and wide face then, cuz photos only ascends ppl with extremely wide faces.

My eye area is quite good in my opinion, I have a good cheek bone height and decent width, my main lacking area is my lack of prominence in my lower third so could be that.
