How come bands that make shirt music always tell the crowd to buy their merch but edgy dark bands don’t tell the crowd anything?

it’s weird because sometimes I’ll see a band perform live and the opening band is a dark edgy band who I’m already a fan of. They don’t say shit to the crowd as if they already know they’re the shit and people will buy their merch regardless.

But I’ve also seen opening bands that make generic boomer sounding rock music and they keep telling the crowd “thank you guys! Please pick up a shirt or a hoodie on the way out, it’ll help us out!”

Why is that?
