average features are attractive, light hair is one of the rarest traits to have and thus the opposite of average.

the most desirable color is brown simply because it's the most average.


in most of the world at least, women prefer dirty blond in north/north-west europe because that is the most common hair color there rather than brown, but in america for example brown is far more common and blond is pretty much non existent.

rarity can be a status symbol though, but this doesn't really go for hair besides in ethnic countries, because you while you can just dye your hair blond if you're brown haired you can't really go blond if you have black hair it'll be fried by the time it's light and will never have a natural hue.
