If they split from East Asians 20 thousand years ago, East Asians being Korean, Japanese and Chinese are pretty successful and in many ways even superior to Europeans.
Even tho the Mayans were kinda advanced for their time most other native Americans were in jungles
Tbh the “harsh winter” theory might make the most sense in this case. Societies with a harsher winter must culturally implement future planning which is what in the long term leads to an advanced civilisation.
When you have to plan for the harsh winter and not freeze and starve to death delayed gratification becomes essential, which is why I think native Americans didn’t become very advanced since most of the north and South American continent have good weather with exception to Canada maybe
