How come Ted Bundy wasn't killed in the prison?

Ex-cops and sexual offenders certainly have hard time in prison. They get targeted and quite often killed very soon after they get arrested. (and rightly so (for sexual offenders))


Still, Ted Bundy, who killed dozens of women, never got attacked by his cellmates.


Why? Does this have something to do with his long midface and decent FWHR?

Serial killers get a special survey. Especially the most infamous ones. They either stay in isolation or are constantly guarded.
Or perhaps he could just do well for himself.
Not every pedophile who ends up in prison gets killed. Not every ex cop who ends up in prison gets killed either.
