There's surely to be a lot of reason, but honestly I think one of the big ones is the art style.

The characters are all aesthetic AF.

Many people hate DBZ but DBZ was my first anime which is why I can't stop loving it. There are no fighting based cartoon series in the West that are as fastpaced and high powered as DBZ. Let's not forget that DBZ has one of the most fucking badass characters in history like Vegeta which you will never see in Western cartoons.

DBZ became popular because as men when we were younger, we looked up to these masculine figures. They had goals, they were beaten, they ascended, they won fights, they loss fights.

Goku was seen as a role model becuase he fought for what was right and good. When we were younger, we though freiza was bad, or even Cell. However, they just wanted to power. Now as a man, we see Cell was right. He wanted the power and all the respect. If Goku never spiritually helped Gohan to kill Cell, Cell would have been very popular and super strong and unbeatable.

Then there is Vegeta, he has always been in the shadow of Goku. That is why Majin Vegatta was super strong. He was enhanced with hatred in his heart and that is why he was very strong.

Also, I used to touch my peepee when looking at Bulma, master roshi was my inner pervert

Goku is not Japanese though. He's an alien from a planet that has a gravity 10x stronger than Earth. And even though their planet has 10x stronger gravity they're all at least 170 (5'7") cm tall and in some cases you have Raditz and Nappa who are easily above 195 cm (6'5") so if they're raised on Earth they should easily be at least 200 cm (6'7") tall.

The way characters interacted was with utmost pride and diligence, so in a way i'm sure a lot of kids looked up to guys like Goku and Vegeta as father figures.(even though they're not real) everything about DBZ just screamed 'boy's Cartoon' it was a shounen in a proper sense, it had virtually no le qt Anime girl nonsense distracting the main cast, it was just the boys duking it out. it was high T and for that it will never be recreated in today's SJW world.(yes even in Japan)
