How did it take Richard Ramirez to die so late?

He died of b cell lymphoma when he was like 50 or something, while all throughout his early 20’s he contracted probably some sort of disease likely thru used needles to shoot heroin. I’m surprised it took him this long to die, and he probably never received medical care or knew about what he was going thru

I guess it’s kinda early but it’s surprising cuz of how dirty his lifestyle was in his early twenties, so it’s shocking to live that long despite his habits from when he was free
