before Richard was in prison he was homeless half the time and he used to be a cocaine and drug addict in general that worsened his teeth and skin including having dirty hair when he was homeless half the time.
Because teeth have an impact on the jaw he got some pulled out and the prison fixed his damaged teeth and gave him recreational teeth.
His skin improved because he didn’t use any drug neither eat his high sugar diet.
His hair became longer and cleaner because he had to shower in prison.
The prison basically made him a Chad.

Difference in lighting and angle, but he also probably stopped eating as much after he started his spree, which from what I understand took place after the time that first pic was taken. And obviously, losing weight / keeping weight off isn't exactly difficult to do in prison.
