But the price for human connection is initial embarrassment and pain, if you're scared of the consequences of interaction you will be lonely FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

I'm sure you don't want that. So just try and fail, have awkward conversations, talk to the girl who's next to you, try and chat up the cashier.
