Been rapping seriously for around 2 years now. I was pretty shit when I started but 4 months ago I got a spotify page and peaked at 130 monthly listeners. I have 150 followers on soundcloud and my biggest song i dropped 6 months ago has almost 2k streams on soundcloud. Im going to an open mic night in 3 weeks where I have a chance to perform and I think that could help.

I already promo sometimes but any advice would be appreciated.

Nettspend is mainstream because the piano bit of his one song blew up on tiktok. Its all down to wiggling your way into tiktok be it natural or artificial.

This is actually good question
Music industry is brainrot and fucking impossible to succeed in nowadays unfortunately, but if you don't have ape IQ you can pull it off

Id start with spending the money you CURRENTLY have to pay people to use your song. This could be people you know IRLs, Family, or random tiktokers

Do NOT pay people to say "go listen to___" that shit never works.

The most intelligent form of promo is when the viewers doesn't even know they are being promoted to.

You won't get anywhere in the music industry if your music is bad. You're competing against millions of other people. Never release your first tracks. Make song until you come up with a masterpiece. Once you have your first masterpiece, record 11 more. That will give you a years worth of singles. Take your time making making each track. Release the worst of your 12 masterpieces first. Release incrementally better singles until you release your 12th and best single. This will give the listener the impression that you're getting better over time and that will keep them listening to you.

Get featured with artists more famous than you. You'll get more attention that way.

Release a single consistently every month. This will keep the listener thinking about your music. Timing is extremely important. There's an optimal day if the week and hour of the day to to release your singles. I don't remember, because I quit music a few years ago, but never release your music at some weird time, like 3:00 am. It has to be when people are awake and receptive.

Release your music on as many platforms as possible. Spotify is obvious, but also release your music on SoundCloud and YouTube. This forum is very popular. You should release your singles here too, but the niggas on the forum are not the optimal fans, because most of them have anti social personalities.

Getting popular on TikTok is really important, because it has the optimal age demographic.

You need fans, not casual listeners. Target sound and impressionable audiences. The best fans are teens, preferably girls. Adults have their lives consumed by their jobs, so they can't devote time to being a fan of your music.

You need to play live shows to grow your fan base. Start in your town and perform there until you become famous there, then spread out to your county, then state, then nation wide, then international.

You need to get people obsessed with you. That's the only way you'll get money out of them. You need thousands of devoted fans to make a living. Think of of each fan as one dollar. If your fans pay spend more than one dollar on you a year, that's even better. Only a small minority of your fans will pay you, so you need a lot. Spotify pays a fraction of a penny per listen, so a lot of your money will come from performing live and selling merch. Get cool print designs for your merch.

You won't grow your fan base if you don't have stage presence. Get high before you perform to give you more energy. Don't look boring. Sematary blew up because of his esthetics.

Music videos are great promotional tools. The more interesting the better, never do boring, basic shit.

Getting success in the music industry id harder than ever. People listen to music less than ever before. Some people don't listen music because some conspiracy video told them that it will brainwash them. Many dudes are extremely antisocial these days. Some are too insecure to be fans. That's why the optimal target demographic are teen girls.

You can go completely independent, or you can try to get signed. You'll keep all of your prophets if you're independent, but it's a lot of work. Being independent means doing everything and financing everything yourself. A record label will do all of the extra shit for you and they have valuble connections. They can get you a lot farther than you can get on your own if they're good. It's important to get signed by a good label. A shitty label can ruin your career. Getting signed to a label is extremely hard. They reject unsolicited demos. They also keep the majority of profits from your music sales. They're a paid service.

You can't half ass a music career and expect success. It's a full time thing

Here’s my 2k stream song on SoundCloud

it's not bad but something just sounds off

it's like there's 2 different beats that aren't meant to be put together

also the voice is kinda generic and slightly infuriating

lyrics are buns too but ug music doesn't really need good lyrics

the real method is just find a crazy beat and try not to mess it up
