How do I fix bad hair texture?

I've been considering growing out my hair, but it tends to become rough and frizzy. I currently only shampoo once a month and don't use any hair products. Are there any products available that can help improve this bad hair texture? I've also experimented with hair sprays and gels in an attempt to slick back my hair, but nothing seems to hold. It's as if my hair is incredibly stubborn

gells arent gonna help the texture they’ll make it worse

you want to add moisture to the hair first with water/humectants then seal it in with an occlusive.
