How do I get better at calculus?

Any tips on how I could get better at differential equations and transforms? I find calculus to be difficult. Most of these higher level math courses require a level of intuitiveness that is beyond me. Laplace transform, Z transforms and Fourier Series in particular also require a lot of practice and mental ability to grasp the concepts properly. Sometimes I feel like I'm the dumbest in my calculus classes. I once told my proctor about this and she told me calculus is more about work ethic than intelligence.

Start at the basics, Algebra.

Focus on solving a shit ton of calculus questions since learning through doing is by far the most effective way to learn something. Ideally you should follow a learning structure similar to this:

Solve a calculus question or a set of calculus questions in "x" amount of time (you want to answer it as quickly as reasonable possible to increase problem solving efficiency).

Check your answers and figure out what questions you got wrong and why you got them wrong. For this last point it requires a skill called metacognition which basically means being aware of your thinking patterns and adapting your thinking patterns to solve the questions correctly.

Rinse and repeat the above steps until you feel confident at solving calculus questions. Also it's important to note the beginning it's okay to get questions wrong just as long as you know why you got them wrong and how you can think your thinking.

TL;DR - develop metacognition.

Honestly even after taking Calc BC in high school and Calc 1, Calc 2, Calc 3 in college I still wouldn't call myself good at calculus. Unless you're a mathematician you will rarely if ever use these skills again, your limited brain capacity can better make use of other information. Getting better at calculus long term doesn't really matter, in your case you should focus on those short bursts of understanding right before big exams.
